how it started ♡
I started The Craft and Yap Club because I was tired of feeling left out.
I’ve been here for nine years, and somehow making friends in Vancouver still felt way harder than it should.
I was really lonely, and I think I underestimated how much having friends, having plans, and feeling like you’re
part of a community can affect your mental health. I know how much this community has made a difference in mine.
There were so many times I wanted to go out, try something new, or just have something to look forward to,
but didn’t have anyone to go with. Showing up alone to social events somehow made it feel even harder.
So I wanted to create the kind of space I wished I had. I also wanted a group that wasn’t built around just one thing.
I didn’t want it to only be a craft club, a book club, or a game night. I wanted a community where we could do whatever
sounded fun, whether that meant making something, going somewhere, or trying something completely new.
So, that’s how The Craft and Yap Club started. A place where coming alone is normal.
Where you don’t already need a friend group to belong. Where there’s something to do,
so meeting people can happen naturally instead of feeling like forced small talk.
Then, little meetups turned into craft nights, reading parties, game nights, day trips,
mystery nights, and all kinds of little adventures. And somewhere along the way,
it became the community I had been looking for.
